The 2017 Hyundai Accent is a Jack of All Trades

With larger crossovers and SUVs taking control of the roads, small cars seem to be a dying breed. “Not so fast,” says the 2017 Hyundai Accent. With its strong mix of performance, charm, and comfort, the all-new Accent is a versatile little game-changer—and it's ready to take on those wide-framed behemoths fearlessly. Here’s why the 2017 Accent might be one of Hyundai’s best vehicles yet.

Simplicity in Various Forms

As one of the most budget-friendly subcompacts on the market, the 2017 Hyundai Accent keeps things simple by coming in two trims for both its sedan and hatchback body styles.

With the Accent SE, you’ll have standard features like 14-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, AC, 60/40-split rear seat, satellite radio, USB ports, and a high-definition six-speaker audio system.

For the 2017 model year, the Accent sedan now comes in an additional trim level: Value Edition. Sitting just above the base SE, the Accent Value Edition is fitted with upgraded 16-inch wheels, cruise control, Bluetooth, and high-end brakes. Also standard is hill-start assist, audio controls on the steering wheel, a large center console with storage, and a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Accent Hatchback is both a throwback to the ‘70s and a call for modernity. Available in SE and Sport trims, this hatchback comes with the same features as the sedan, though a larger rear window and its affixed wiper are noticeably different, but warranted. The Accent Sport Hatchback comes with a rear spoiler, projector LED headlights, fog lamps, sporty steering, leather steering wheel, piano black interior, and upgraded upholstery and seats. What’s most impressive is the Sport’s heated side-view mirrors, which also come with integrated turn signals and blind-spot aides.

Wondering which body style and model is best for you? For the average American driver in need of a trunk with more than 21 cubic feet of space, the 2017 Hyundai Accent Value Edition is your bread and butter; drivers who like a bit more utility would do best with the Sport Hatchback. But don’t take our word for it when you can visit our Hyundai dealership in Blue Springs to test each one out.

Charm & Power All in One

No matter which Accent trim you opt to buy or lease, you’ll be impressed by its handsome appearance and get-up-and-go aptitude.

Each Accent is equipped with a 1.6L four-cylinder engine that produces 137 horsepower. Merging into traffic is sometimes a concern to consider with these smaller cars, but not the Accent. Accelerating from zero is never a problem—a 9.3-second race to 60 mph is perhaps the best in its class—and steering is far superior to most other subcompacts. Most surprising is how quiet it can be from the cabin. Road and engine noise is barely evident, even to those with the most well-trained ears.

Even with its enthusiastically low MSRP, the 2017 Accent never feels low-cost. Stitching along the cloth seats is done well, plastic quality is on the higher end of the spectrum, and the dashboard is laid out to emphasize functionality. As Elantra’s little brother, the Accent obviously carries some of the same genes; its front grille and fender are basically slimmed-down versions of those found on the Elantra. But we aren’t complaining since the Hyundai Elantra is one of our favorite models.

Driver- & Passenger-Friendly Sedan

Subcompacts aren’t typically as accommodating as the 2017 Accent. Passenger volume is ample with the rear seat offering enough room for two full-grown adults (or three, if you hate the middle rider). Large doors and a high roofline work in tandem with comfortable seat cushions to make the Accent a worthwhile trip-taker.

Functionality, as mentioned previously, is a strong characteristic of the Accent. In the front, drivers will discover an array of knobs, buttons, and dials that might look familiar yet endearingly new. Since the dashboard has done away with distractions, this setup is a throwback to simpler times. But don’t let its humble demeanor fool you—the Accent makes good use of its central console, adding deep cup holders and an amazingly large storage compartment.

Incomparable Value

With a starting price in the low- to mid-teens, the 2017 Hyundai Accent is a breath of fresh air for any car shopper restricted by a budget. When you add on Hyundai’s world-class warranty coverage, the Accent should most definitely sit at the top of your list. Take a test drive in the all-new Accent at McCarthy Blue Springs Hyundai.
